Strix Halo (395/8060S) results: ~29 tok/s with MTP on Vulkan, quant/flag notes

#27
by j2ipper - opened

Data point for anyone running this on a 128 GB Strix Halo:

  • llama.cpp Vulkan (RADV), 64K ctx, f16 KV
  • -ub 1024 --spec-type draft-mtp --spec-draft-n-max 2 --spec-draft-sampling probabilistic
  • chat decode ~29 tok/s, coding ~31, ~28 at 32K depth
  • prompt ~230 tok/s at 2K, ~208 at 32K
  • draft acceptance 0.74 on chat, 0.83 on agentic coding

Quant: a requant of the release, KLD 0.043. Routed experts IQ2_S/IQ3_S with an imatrix; attention, shared expert and dense FFN at Q4_K. It leaves ~9 GiB free at 64K context.

Notes:

  • n_max 3 was slower than 2.
  • q8_0 KV cost ~7% decode.
  • Top-6/7 experts gave +5-10% speed at KLD 0.06-0.10.
  • Matched ROCm vs Vulkan run (same commit, model and flags): Vulkan 29.6 vs HIP 21.5 chat, 208 vs 117 prompt at 32K.
